Financial Advisor to SiriusPoint on Joyn Insurance Series A Funding

Transaction Overview

Insurance technology company Joyn Insurance Services Inc. (“Joyn”) announced a $17.7mm Series A funding round led by OMERS Ventures

  • Existing investor SiriusPoint Ltd. (“SiriusPoint”) participated in the round, which exceeded Joyn’s fundraising target, and also featured investments from:
    • Avanta Ventures, ManchesterStory, Cohen Circle and several private individual investors

Launched in July 2021, Joyn integrates insurance, data and technology to offer leading underwriting services in the E&S space

  • Joyn is a Delaware-domiciled, licensed producer and general agent offering E&S coverage in 36 states and D.C.(a)
  • Current coverages include property, general liability, and excess for companies across more than 700 NAICS(a) codes
  • Its integrated underwriting and workflow platform provides a faster, more accurate, and more transparent process for binding coverage
  • Joyn has bound more than 500 policies with approximately 80 trading partners, covering more than 300 insureds(a)

The Series A funding brings total capital raised by Joyn to over $30mm and enables Joyn to:

  • Further enhance its technology platform and data capabilities to provide a best-in-class E&S insurance experience
  • Significantly expand the size of Joyn’s team while adding to its product offering, geographic footprint, and distribution relationships

Joyn’s new Series A investors include venture capital firms with significant investment experience in the InsurTech space

  • OMERS Ventures, the venture arm of the Canadian pension fund, prior investments include Clearcover, Foresight & WeFox
  • ManchesterStory is an early stage FinTech & InsurTech-focused venture fund backed by strategic capital from insurers
  • Avanta Ventures, the venture arm of auto insurer CSAA Insurance Group, has a broad portfolio of InsurTech investments
  • Cohen Circle invests in the fintech, technology and impact spaces and has raised over $5bn in capital across various investment vehicles(a)

HTCMA acted as financial advisor to SiriusPoint with key roles and responsibilities including:

  • Providing objective advice and acting as confidant to SiriusPoint throughout the process
  • Assistance in discussions with the potential investors, and acting as an advocate of Joyn and its story
  • Coordinating an organized and efficient diligence process with prospective investors and management
  • Assistance in valuation and other financial analysis
  • Advising on the structuring and negotiation of the transaction terms
